About Us
Helping our customers Since 1945
Thompson Electric is a 3rd generation family owned business that has served the Belleville to Cornwall corridor of Eastern Ontario for over 70 years.
When Russell Thompson returned from serving over seas in WWII, he settled in the Seeley’s Bay area and soon established Thompson Electric as a one man electrical repair service.
Since then, we have grown through three generations of family ownership to become an established and recognized electrical contractor in the Kingston & 1000 Islands region.

Notable projects
We specialize in design build, project management and turn-key operations for electrical systems in mass residential, commercial and industrial applications.

18 Queen Street, Kingston, Ontario

Thompson Electric proudly served as the electrical contractor for The Madeleine, a striking 23-storey mixed-use landmark at 18 Queen Street in downtown Kingston.
With 153 luxury rental apartments, more than 30,000 sq ft of office space, and retail storefronts on the ground floor, The Madeleine is designed to be a vibrant hub of urban life.
Residents benefit from high-end amenities including a fitness centre, games room, indoor pool, rooftop terrace with sweeping views, and modern, elegantly finished 1- and 2-bedroom suites.
On this flagship project, Thompson Electric delivered the full electrical system — helping power not just a residential tower, but a mixed-use destination that blends work, living, and community in the heart of Kingston.
Brockville, Ontario

Completed in 2015, Thompson Electric was proud to serve as the electrical contractor on the Tall Ships Landing development in downtown Brockville, a high-profile waterfront project that includes the Aquatarium, a 27,000 sq ft interactive discovery centre dedicated to the ecology, history, and culture of the Thousand Islands.
Built by the Fuller family—longtime stewards of Brockville’s maritime heritage—the facility overlooks the St. Lawrence River and plays a central role in the Brockville Tall Ships Festival, drawing sailing vessels, tourism, and community energy to the waterfront.
Inside the Aquatarium, visitors can explore exhibits on native river species, climb into rigging of tall ship replicas, and learn about local maritime history and environmental stewardship.
By working on this project, Thompson Electric contributed to a landmark that’s not only a tourism draw, but also a durable, community-focused investment — one that blends education, history, and economic vitality in Brockville’s waterfront district.
Kingston, Ontario

Completed in 2011, Thompson Electric was proud to serve as the electrical contractor for the Block D redevelopment project on Kingston’s historic waterfront. This multi-building, mixed-use community includes:
• The Royal George, a 95-unit condominium
• The Locomotive Works and Carruthers Wharf, two 142-unit apartment buildings
• An 11-storey Residence Inn by Marriott hotel
We handled the complete electrical installation for the project — including the high-voltage infrastructure, transformer, and substation — delivering the power backbone this complex needs to run smoothly and reliably.
Block D is more than just a collection of buildings; it’s a thoughtful revitalization of a key downtown site, bringing together residential living, hospitality, and commercial amenities in one vibrant waterfront precinct. Working on a project of this scale underscores Thompson Electric’s capacity to deliver comprehensive, large-scale electrical solutions for landmark developments.
Gananoque, Ontario

Completed in 2021, Thompson Electric was privileged to be the electrical contractor for Stone & South on the River, a beautifully designed two-phase waterfront condo development in Gananoque. Developed by CaraCo, the project features six-storey buildings with around 118 upscale units, all offering stunning views of the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands.
Built with a refined architectural style that respects the town’s historic heritage, the buildings use materials like brick and stone in warm earth tones, large windows, and classic design elements to blend seamlessly into the surrounding riverside environment.
Residents at Stone & South enjoy a suite of high-end amenities, including a private marina with slips for boats up to 40 ft, underground parking, a fitness centre, social room, landscaped outdoor BBQ areas, and even off-leash dog space.
On this complex, Thompson Electric handled full electrical installation, helping ensure the infrastructure supports both daily living and the luxury, river-oriented lifestyle this development promises.
Marysville Dock & Charging Infrastructure

Completed in 2024, Thompson Electric played a key role in the infrastructure build-out supporting the new Wolfe Islander IV electric ferry, specifically at the Marysville dock on Wolfe Island. This project is part of a major modernization effort led by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to electrify the ferry service between Kingston and Wolfe Island.
• Marysville Terminal Upgrade: The dock rebuild includes a new terminal building and a dedicated utility building housing critical electrical systems and a large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Wolfe Island Docks
• Charging System: An advanced shore-power system has been installed to deliver multi-megawatt capacity. The technology—developed in partnership with Leclanché—enables rapid charging of the ferry’s onboard batteries while it’s docked. Leclanché Great Lakes Governors and Premiers
• Power Delivery: The system can deliver up to 6 MW of power, thanks to a motion-compensated mooring interface that ensures a stable connection even when the ferry moves with waves or changing water levels. Great Lakes Governors and Premiers
• Cable Infrastructure: The dock upgrade required extensive underground cabling (tens of kilometres of cable) to support power delivery, control systems, and the energy storage infrastructure. Wolfe Island Docks
• De-icing & Winter Support: Given the river’s challenging winter ice conditions, de-icing equipment was installed around the dock perimeter to keep the area operational year-round. Aquatic Engineering
• Return to Service & Current State: The Wolfe Islander IV returned to service in May 2025, operating on an 80-minute round-trip schedule.
While the Marysville-side charging setup is now operational, full shore charging on the Kingston side is still in progress.
Kingston, Ontario

Thompson Electric has worked on Rockwell Place I,II & III, a residential community located on Rockwell Drive in Kingston, developed by Homestead Land Holdings.
This modern apartment complex offers thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom suites with upscale finishes and in-building amenities like a rooftop patio, fitness centre, social rooms, and underground parking.
By serving as the electrical contractor, Thompson Electric provided full-service electrical installation — from in-suite wiring and lighting to building-wide power systems. Our work helped ensure the project delivers a comfortable, reliable, and energy-efficient living experience.
This project highlights Thompson Electric’s capability to support multiple large-scale, high-quality rental developments, and reinforces our partnership with Homestead as they continue to expand in Kingston.
